Tree trimming is dangerous – even for the professionals. Homeowners should NEVER do it!
We are tempted by the warm weather to shape up the yards, so go ahead and tune up the mower, trim the bushes, and plant the flowers...but tree trimming is something homeowners should avoid.
Tree defects, weather conditions, unfamiliarity with equipment and experience all play into the hazards of trimming or removing a tree in your yard. If that’s not enough to convince you NOT to trim your own trees, here’s a sobering fact: 66% of all tree trimming accidents are fatal. In two-thirds of all cases where it could be determined, the victims undertook hazardous tree work with nobody to spot them, nobody to assist them and nobody to advise them when it might have been prudent to stop and seek out an expert.
The most common types of serious tree trimming accidents are:
1. Falling from Trees. You can be seriously injured or killed if you fall from a tree. Broken bones and spinal injuries are most common.
3. Being Struck by Trees or Limbs. You can be seriously injured or killed if you are struck by falling trees or limbs or even the chainsaw.
3. Electrocution. You can be seriously injured or killed if you come into contact with an electric line.
So, how can you protect yourself? DON’T DO IT! Don’t trim your own trees. Leave that job to the professionals.
