Preventing Injury in Kids Soccer

Soccer has to be one of the area's largest participation sports for our kids. It places many technical and physical demands on the players and, as a result, injuries can occur. Player contact, pushing, falls, tripping and tackles are common causes of injury while playing soccer. Our dangerous summer heat can also cause injury.
 
To prevent injury, we should lead kids to:
o Be prepared for heat by remaining hydrated and taking breaks.
o Use good technique and practices. Know the rules and play fairly.
o Wear the right protective gear, including shin guards.
 
When preparing to for game day, help them to get off to a good start.
o Train before the season starts.
o Start early with a fitness programs to develop endurance, strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.
o Add injury prevention programs to their training routine.
o Have them warm up, stretch and cool down every time they play.
 
Being physically ready to play and using the right techniques and equipment for the sport can help prevent soccer injury for our kids.
